Good News!

After 3.5 months of unemployment, I started a new job last Monday.  So far everything is good, but I've still got the normal 3 mth probation period to get through ...

Although I did get a fairly decent payout from last employer, it has been rough during this period and the depression that seems to be constantly with me got really, really bad for a time ...  Money will be an issue for a while, and I've decided that I have to sell my flat as I really couldn't afford to be paying 2 mortgages - the flat and my daughter's home (with my ex- )

I have a buyer and it seems to be moving along ok (so far!) and I've moved in with my parents until that all gets sorted & I complete my probation. At that point my cunning plan is to buy another home ..

Hardly anything has been done on the hobby front during this time ... I haven't managed to accomplish anything much.

Oh well; hopefully things will get back on track over the rest of this year ... :-)

News ... Bad News ...

Well it's happened again ... for the fourth time in what is laughingly known as my career, I'm being made redundant ...

Bit of a shock - on Thursday last week, my manager's manager says to me that he and I are meeting with the HR Director and I'm told that my role is no longer required and following a two-week 'consultation' period I will not be needed.

On top of that, I am not required to attend the office ... 'gardening leave' I believe it's called.

So, one hell of a shock, and now I'm looking for a job again ... apart from that everything is rosy ... not.

White Russian progress, part the fourth

Well, I've finished the bases for my White Russians, done the flags for the standard bearersand added flags to my 2 armoured cars.

All I have left to do now is finish painting 6 cavalry.

However, I seem to have hit a motivational impasse. My opponent for the first club campaign game is currently busy preparing a participation game for Warfare, so we won't be playing that game before the convention.

But that's not what's stopping me from painting the cavalry - I'm not really sure what is. I just can't seem to get the oomph to do anything at the moment ... the last few evenings I've just watched TV without achieving anything ... I can't even summon up the desire to take pics of the finished stuff ...

Oh well ... maybe I'll get something done at the weekend ...

Restarting a stalled project?

Back in August I saw this post on Jim's Wargames Workbench - Rise of the Battleships

Pre-Dreadnaught naval is yet another wargaming period that has long intrigued me and I even bought some of Tumbling Dice's Victorian Period ships to try it out, but, as usual, never found a set of rules that I liked.

Anyway, I splashed out & got Rise of the Battleships from Wargames Vault and now I've finally got around to reading them, am definitely liking them so far!

Time to try and find the ships I bought and see how the rules work out ...
