Insure your figures!

Back in this post in September last year, I rambled on about insuring wargames figures and the need to catalogue them to do that ...

Anyway, although I can't remember how I found it, this site now exists on the interweb:
Wargamer Collection Calculator
A free site to record your wargames collection. It seems to cater for only land warfare at present - no scales for aerial/naval/space gaming ...

That shouldn't in anyway detract from a hobbyist produced free site - IMO

Did I mention it was free?

FFT3 - taken the plunge ...

I've long been eyeing the modern ruleset Fistful of Tows 3 - it seems very popular with bloggers all over the place.

However, the seemingly extortionate price on Wargames Vault for it of £30.70 seemed much fairer once I read the review of the rules on the Delta Vector blog. I think this quote had the most effect on my opinion:
The bulk of the book is from the  263 pages of "army lists" - orders of battle for pretty much every country's forces at brigade/regiment scale from 1915 to the present along with vehicles, infantry and weapon details for those forces, as well as detailed rules for designing your own.  This hefty tome is probably the most comprehensive resource of its kind I have come across and would be very useful for other WW2-modern games besides FFT3.
I was also impressed by the arguments of evilleMonkeigh (the blog's author) and have visited Lulu.com to get the coil bound version for myself. At £37.88 (+ P&P) it wasn't that much more than the pdf version.

I'll post more about it when it arrives

Success!

The cunning plan that I outlined in my last post actually succeeded! I managed to extract my White Russians, VBCW, Fantasy Naval and Wars of Turkmenistania figures from the store.

So I can - hopefully! - make some progress with these projects:
  • The White Russians have half-a-dozen cavalry to finish off, along with some baggage/supply figures.
  • VBCW has a detachment of sailors and a couple of vehicles to do
  • Fantasy Naval - the ships are painted but their bases need doing
These are on top of what I already had out of the store, my battlemechs (adde 3 with eBay purchase) & some other smaller stuff ...

So time to start doing stuff I guess!!

Cunning Plan ...

As I just posted on the Wars of Turkmenistania blog, I have a cunning plan to rescue some of my toy soldiers from storage tomorrow.

The place I have my stuff is open from 10am to 4pm so I have a 6hr opportunity to get my White Russians, VBCW and maybe my Fantasy Naval stuff.

Unfortunately there are 2 things against this ...

  1. They're all right at the back of the store, behind a fridge freezer amongst other things, so it's going to be hard work - something that I am against on principle
  2. I've planned to do this for the last 3 or 4 weekends in a row, and my recent tendency to visit the pub the evening before, where my new friends force me to imbibe several pints of Guinness have led to me being ... shall we say 'unsuitable' for physical exertion the next day
I shall try my best to fight through these obstacles! :)

Moving home ...

The sale of my previous abode has been agreed for a while now and - as these things do - is trundling slowly to completion ....

I've also found a place to buy, for which my offer has been accepted!  So that'll take its own sweet time to complete ...

Unfortunately, due to a lack of realisation of how much stuff I have, all my wargames stuff is at ehe back of the storage unit I'm using - I had thought I'd be able to get to it, but all the stuff I've got means there just isn't the room to reach it ...

Oh well,  just have to wait until I'm in my new home ...
